Dr. J.J.'s Transformation Day 31-60
































These pictures were taken 30 days apart. If you read my former blog, you will see everything that I did to attain these goals in such a short period of time. This blog will track my progress from today (day 31) to day 60.
8/16/2009 Day 31

6:05 AM warm water & lemon followed by 5 oz of water

10 AM Hiked Squaw Peak Mountain with my son Chandler and his friend Davey Mancuso. It has been about a decade since the last time that hiked this mountain and it is much harder now. I made it to the top, but if I had tried to do this 30 days ago before the transformation started, I don't know that I would have made it. If you live in Valley of the Sun (Phoenix), I highly recommend hiking Squaw Peak mountain. Bring a great deal of water. You will have incredible views of the city. By the way, My son and Davey were able to run up most of the mountain. I walked with multiple breaks. It gave me an opportunity to give them my 2 cents. It is easier to stay healthy and maintain your wellness your entire life than to try and reclaim what you've lost. They are both young and in great shape. I recommended making great decisions now. To start to decrease the amount of junk food that they are eating, increasing healthy foods and continuing to engage in regular exercise like this hike.

I shouldn't have mixed the banana into the shake or had the almonds so late at night. The shake is enough calories. I am happy that I made better choices today than yesterday. I am back at home now and I am looking forward to going to yoga. I have missed it.

5:45 AM I went to yoga class this morning. All of the students were outside. The yoga instructor didn't wake up and we were locked out. I did have the thoughts of going back home to bed, but I have made a commitment to reclaim my health. Everyday we are given multiple opportunities to make choices. The way we decide will have a negative or a positive impact on our future. I am choosing to make positive choices. I got in my car and drove to another Bikram Yoga studio. When I got there the class was just about to start. I was able to pay a nominal fee and join the class. There were only 4 people in the class, so the instructor was able to give us personalized coaching and corrections throughout the session. I learned a great deal and I am proud that I didn't take the easy road to go back to bed.

5:45 AM yoga class. I found that I if I keep one knee down during humble warrior and I arise slowly for all of the warrior 1 or A positions, I don't get lightheaded and have better stamina throughout the class.

I weighted myself at the gym today. They have a medical grade scale. I made sure it was balanced/calibrated on the zero weight. I weighed 197 lbs. The weight is coming off regularly and consistently. I will hit my goal of 185 lbs very soon.

5 AM woke up for yoga but back is still painful. I decided to not push it and let my body rest and recover today. I went back to sleep.


7 AM 3 oz of Zrii, 10 oz of water, handful of blueberries, handful of sun dried cranberries and 3 egg omelet as above. I have been eating these cranberries for many days and liking them. I noticed today that they are sweetened with sugar. I will not consume them any longer. I thought they were just sun dried cranberries similar to raisons.

12:30 PM Not swimming laps today. Going to rest my low back today. I went to lunch with Robert Carter. We ate at The Flaming Kabob (Medeterranean food) I had the Shish Kufta (ground beef and a bit of lamb), salad (dressing is olive oil and lemon) and a cup of lentil soup. 10 oz of water and a fruitfull ice pop. Woke up with low back pain. It is definitely a strain. I know this because it is worse with rest. I decided to avoid yoga today. I a m optimistic that I will be feeling well enough to go tomorrow.


2 PM Believe it or not this is the first that I have eaten today. I have definitely slipped, but I am aware of it and i will get back on course. Salad, with Chicken and croutons (oops) and balsamic dressing. 10 oz of water

Looking back on this diary over the past week, I am amazed how many times that I consumed red meat (steak). I want to be more conscious of this and make leaner choices.

In 55 days, I have lost 5" off of my waist, lost 19 lbs and I lost 10% body fat. I will lose 7 more pounds and 5% more body fat to reach my original goal. My 42nd birthday is in 19 days. This is one of the greatest birthday presents that I can give myself. The gift of increased health.

Today is a great day. 7 years ago, I needed to by larger pants because of the weight I had gained. I was ripping my slacks at work because they were too small for me. I put the non rippped "skinny" slacks in my closet in the hopes that I would lose weight someday and I could wear them again. 57 days ago, when I started the NutriiVeda transformation, my "fatguy" slacks were beginning to get tight, I was on my last belt hole and I started to realize that I if I didn't lose weight quickly, I was going to have to purchase even "fatterguy" slacks and a bigger belt. Recently I sent 1 of my "fatguy" slacks to the dry cleaner. This morning I was putting on that fresh pair and they were very loose on me. I folded them back up on the hangar. I tried on my "skinny" slacks and they fit great. The best part is that my belt is now worn 5 holes tighter.
I am excited to see what the next 33 days will bring me. I am confident I will reach my goals.

9/13/2009 Day 59
6:15 PM Warm water and lemon
7 AM Yoga class. 16.9 oz of water. The studio got a new dark wood floor today. I always get a spot towards the back by the door. This is the "beginners" area. When the back door is open you sometimes get a moment of cool air. These spots were taken today and I have been noticing regular improvements in my yoga skills, so I decided to move to the front row today. I did great. I found that being closer to the mirror, allowed me to have less distractions and greater focus.
8;50 AM 1.5 oz of Zrii
9:30 AM 10 oz of water, handful of blueberries, handful of cherry tomatos, 3 egg omelet (as above)
After breakfast, we went to an unveiling of the headstone of a great friend of mine that passed away. His name was Dr. Brett Saks. He was one of the best people that I have ever known. My wife went to highschool with him and she and I went to college (Florida State University) with him. We were pledge brothers in the Chi Phi fraternity. He was a husband to Kim, a father of 2 children Aaron and Anna, a son, a cousin, an uncle, a patented inventor, published author, incredible musician, Doctor of Chiropractic, Naturopathic Medical Doctor, Acupuncturist and he had a nutrition degree. He was very funny and was always going out of his way to help everyone. He was killed at a very young age while training for a bicycle race whose proceeds would help special needs children. He and his bicycle were struck by a car a few months ago. After this extrodinarily emotional event, we returned to his home to spend time with his family and friends.
2 P.M. BBQ beef brisket, BBQeans, BBQ chicken, 16.9 oz of water at The Sak's home.
5 PM 10 oz of water and popcorn. I decided to go to a movie to clear my mind from to days emotional event. 5 minutes into the movie, I fell asleep. It's amazing how such emotions can physically drain the body.
7 PM 2 breaded fish tacos, with cheese, salsa, cabbage and tortilla chips, 10 oz water.
7:15 PM Tomorrow will be my 60th day of this 90 day transformation. I will continue this journey beyond the 90th day but I gave myself 90 days to achieve certain goals. I will accomplish those goals and I am proud of all of the milestones I have accomplished thus far. This being said, before I embark on the final 30 days, I have decided to reward myself with some icecream. Chandler, Angie and I went to ColdStone Creamery. I got Banana IceCream, mixed with hot fudge and M&Ms in a sprinkle waffle cone.
9/14/2009 Day 60 (30 days to go)
5 AM Warm water and lemon
5:45 AM Yoga class and 16.9 oz of water. I was in the front of the room again and I felt like a pro. I know that I have tons of room for improvement, but I continue to see gains in focus, flexibiliy, breathing, balance and stamina.
7:15 AM 1.5 oz of Zrii
8 AM 10 oz of water, 3 egg omelet (as above), 1 plum.
10:20 AM Chocolate NutriiVeda, 20 oz of water
12:25 PM Swam 50 laps
2 PM 4 oz cottage cheese, 10 grapes and 20 oz of water.
4:15 PM Chocoalte NutriiVeda
6:40 PM 1.5 oz of Zrii, 10 oz of water, chicken, hummus, brown rice, gold and green string beans, 2 mini zucchini and 2 tablespoons of peanut butter. (Laura Scudder's all natural, no sugar)
8 PM Go to gym
